Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points

Choosing the technology is only half of the requirement to run a waste site, the other half is procedure. To obtain a waste management licence from the Environment Agency and pass the Animal By-Product Regulations 2005 set down by the State Veterinary Service (SVS) and Defra you need to demonstrate that the site will be run correctly.

Wasteology Systems Limited can supply the technology and help you with the procedures to run the site. We work with Ian Paton of Paton Associates to produce a report outlining the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points or HACCP assessment and Standard Operating Procedure or SOP, required by the SVS under the Animal By-Products Regulations 2005 for the composting of kerbside waste.

The report is split into several parts.  The first part, is a Description of the Process, describes the general operation of the composting plant.  The second part is the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) Assessment, describing the method of analysis, the resulting critical control points, and the accompanying procedures for controlling and monitoring them and the verification schedule to ensure they are continually assessed.  The third part is the Standard Operating Procedure, describing the practical procedures which the operators follow to ensure the HACCP is adhered to.  This part also details the records that are used and so establishes a traceable system for each batch produced.  The fourth part is Movements Plans, describing the movement of personnel, vehicles and water and material flow.  It also describes the procedures to limit cross contamination.  The fifth part is Pest Control, describing the pest control procedures in place.  The final part is about Temperature Probe and Data Logger Calibration Procedure, describing the procedures in place to ensure the temperature probes are accurate.

The report itself is a combination of text, diagrams, drawings, site plans and charts. The report has been designed to be simple and easy to understand, but is still comprehensive. Within the report there are a number of forms that can be used when monitoring temperature, calibrating equipment and for machinery maintenance records.
